Calgary Football Academy (FA), Abuja, has drawn positives from its outing at the 2026 Baffi Furniture Cup, with two of its players, Victor Awuna and Sunday Tivsue, earning selection recognition after impressive displays at the talent-focused competition.
The tournament, which served as a platform for player identification and exposure, featured a number of emerging teams and young prospects seeking to attract attention from scouts and football stakeholders. Calgary FA, drawn in Group C alongside Galadima FC and Sporting Dreams FC, delivered disciplined performances across its fixtures.
Although the team faced stiff competition in the group phase, individual performances stood out, particularly from Awuna and Sunday.
Awuna, a centre-back, demonstrated composure and positional awareness, showing consistency in his reading of the game and organisation of the defensive line. His performances marked him as one of the notable defensive prospects at the tournament.
Sunday, who operated in attack, combined industry with end product. He recorded two assists in two group matches, underlining his creative influence, before going on to score in the selected players’ match against Turf Arena FC, further reinforcing his impact in the final phase of the scouting exercise.
Reacting to the development, former Warri Wolves FC striker and Chief Executive Officer of JK Sports Management, **Jeremiah Ogaga**, described the players’ progress as a reflection of the academy’s long-term vision.
“The objective has always been to create a clear pathway for talented players to be seen and to progress. What Awuna and Sunday have shown is a product of consistent development, discipline and exposure to the right platforms. This is only the beginning for them,” Ogaga said.
Their selection recognition underscores Calgary FA’s focus on player development and its role in providing a pathway for emerging talents.
Attention now shifts to the club’s forthcoming participation in the Nationwide League One, regarded as the third tier of football in Nigeria.
Calgary FA has been grouped alongside Fosla FC, Total Dazzlers FC, Bussdor United FC, Legacy Stars FC, AA FC, Anglican FC, MC Steve FC and Beautiful Tour FC, in what is expected to be a competitive campaign.
The league presents a structured environment for further development, offering players the opportunity to gain match experience and test their abilities over an extended period.
For Calgary FA, the emergence of Awuna and Sunday from the Baffi Furniture Cup provides a timely boost as the team prepares for the demands of league football.
